Tuition Fees and Living Costs

One of Bulgaria’s biggest advantages is its affordability. Annual tuition fees for Medicine or Dentistry in English typically range from €7,000 up to €10,000 per year depending on the university. As of 2025, Sofia Medical University charges €9,950/year for Medicine, Plovdiv recently raised its Medicine fee to €10,000/year, and newer programs such as Trakia University remain around €7,000/year. Dentistry tuition is similar, usually between €9,000–€10,000 at the major medical universities. Pharmacy programs range from roughly €6,000 (Plovdiv) up to €10,000 (Sofia) per year. These fees are typically paid in two installments and remain significantly lower than those in Western Europe.

Beyond tuition, students find daily life in Bulgaria surprisingly cost-effective. Accommodation in student dormitories or shared apartments generally costs €200–€400 per month. Day-to-day living expenses—including food, transport, utilities, and personal needs—range from about €400–€800 per month, depending on lifestyle. Overall, international students can enjoy a comfortable and active student life while staying within a manageable budget.

Note: Non-EU students should also plan for initial administrative fees including the visa D application, residence permit fee, and health insurance. Entrance exam fees vary by university and may range from €50 to €250.
